I work in a division called Financial Institution
Group at Securian where our clients are credit unions
and banks who offer Securian's products (credit
insurance and debt protection) to their borrowers. I
am on the Client Implementations team and my job is to
make sure financial institution's data processing systems
are set up to accurately charge premium/fees. My math
degree comes in handy because I look at premium
calculations and formulas every day (yes, some formulas
have a-angles, s-angles, and all that good interest
theory stuff).

When I came to Bethel as a student, I wanted to be an optometrist,
and was a math/chem. double major for 2 years. Then, my love for
math took over, so I became a math major with chem. & physics
minors. I wanted more math background, and thought I would end up
in industry, so I went to grad. school in math at the U of OK. I
never dreamed that I would teach or return to Bethel as a math prof.
But while in grad. school, I taught several courses and really enjoyed
this experience, and also found a love for Operations Research. When
a one year sabbatical replacement became available at Bethel, I took
the opportunity and was hooked! But, after the one year, there were no
positions available; so, I went back to grad school at the U of MN and
got a second masters in transportation engineering. During this time,
a position at Bethel opened up for F '90, so I returned and have enjoyed
teaching ever since.

this flexibility while my sons were growing up. I am very thankful
for the Bethel math department!
