Jami Eckerle (Hillenbrand) Math 1998 Supervisor I work in a division called Financial Institution Group at Securian where our clients are credit unions and banks who offer Securian's products (credit insurance and debt protection) to their borrowers. I am on the Client Implementations team and my job is to make sure financial institution's data processing systems are set up to accurately charge premium/fees. My math degree comes in handy because I look at premium calculations and formulas every day (yes, some formulas have a-angles, s-angles, and all that good interest theory stuff).

Mark Nelson Computer Science 1996 Consultant I work at Accenture, which is a management, consulting, and outsourcing company with 200,000 employees around the world. I started with Accenture as an intern while I was still in school at Bethel. I am the lead engineer for our internal email system, which includes user mailboxes, mail client access, mobile phone access, voicemail integration, anti-spam/anti-virus filtering, and application integration. I design, plan, test, and deploy changes and new features for the email system, and provide escalation support for our help desk and server administrators. I also work with our IT leadership and client projects to take business requirements and turn them into technical solutions.

Chris Meidt Math 1992 Assistant Football Coach Assistant Football Coach Washington Redskins. MBA from Carlson School at UMN, First worked as an IT Systems Analyst for Burlington Northern, then a math instructor and Offensive Coordinator from 1995-2001 at Bethel, and was St. Olaf's head football coach from 2002-2008. Problem solving, organizing data, situational analysis are football related skills that have allowed me to excel at every level, never more so than in the NFL. Being able to quickly evaluate, analyze and make a decision over complex data sets is a skill I use a game day, providing the head coach with recommendations needed to make game changing decisions.

Bill Kinney Math 1990 Professor I earned a PhD in Math from the U of MN, Professor at Bethel since 1998. I teach a variety of courses at Bethel, but my favorites are the calculus sequence, differential equations, and real analysis. I love being able to work with students and help them to learn about amazing topics and applications of math. I also love using Mathematica as a visualization, learning, and research tool.

My range of jobs have been diverse - customer service, supply chain analyst, project leader and my current position as business analyst. I enjoy working with people and data - a mix for me is always good. I received an MBA in Marketing from University of St. Thomas in 2000.

David Smythe CS 1988 PMTS I'm a software developer at Sandia National Laboratories. We do a variety of work to assist other government partners. Past projects I've participated in involved embedded systems engineering, device drivers, and various low-level OS activities. Prior to Sandia I did network and routing protocol development at Zhone Technologies, Bravara and NEO Networks, secure-OS work at Secure Computing Corporation, and PBX call-processing and embedded applications work at Siemens and IBM. At home I hack around in Common Lisp and Scheme.

As a Senior Technical Architect, I am responsible for defining and providing architectural guidance and governance to the projects in my department.

I have also taught at Aurora Christian School (IL), Rockford Christian School (IL), Rain Forest International School (Cameroon, Africa), and Iowa Valley Community College.
Patrice Conrath (Pedersen) Math 1986 Professor When I came to Bethel as a student, I wanted to be an optometrist, and was a math/chem. double major for 2 years. Then, my love for math took over, so I became a math major with chem. & physics minors. I wanted more math background, and thought I would end up in industry, so I went to grad. school in math at the U of OK. I never dreamed that I would teach or return to Bethel as a math prof. But while in grad. school, I taught several courses and really enjoyed this experience, and also found a love for Operations Research. When a one year sabbatical replacement became available at Bethel, I took the opportunity and was hooked! But, after the one year, there were no positions available; so, I went back to grad school at the U of MN and got a second masters in transportation engineering. During this time, a position at Bethel opened up for F '90, so I returned and have enjoyed teaching ever since.
Monica Miller Computer Science 1986 IT Team Coach Since joining Thomson Reuters over 25 years ago, I have held numerous technical and leadership positions within the company, including my current role as IT Team Coach of the .Law School. project, a course management system for law students to build preference for our products, such as WestlawNext, our premiere research product. One of my favorite aspects of my job is working with people, including partnering with our business teams, developing staff, and recruiting/interviewing. I earned my bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Bethel University and continued my education with graduate level courses at St. Thomas.

Roseanne Sension Math and Chemistry 1981 Chemistry and Physics Professor PhD 1986 in Chemistry specializing in experimental physical chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley. On the faculty at the University of Michigan since 1992. Currently Professor of Chemistry and Professor of Physics working in the areas of ultrafast spectroscopy, chemical reaction dynamics, and the interaction of light with molecular systems.
Becky Seaberg (Johnson) Math Education 1977 Professor I received an MA from UMN in Math Education. I have taught at Apple Valley HS, Minnehaha Academy, UMN, & Normandale,and first taught at Bethel in 1981. Since I began teaching at Bethel, I was able to take full years off and teach part-time, sometimes in the evening school for adults. I believe that my family benefited greatly from this flexibility while my sons were growing up. I am very thankful for the Bethel math department!
